Winter Comes to Tripoli

It's Friday Morn - the start of the Islamic Eid holiday that celebrates the sacrifice by Abraham of his son Isaac to God. The sky is overcast with winter storm - the week has been marked by torrential rains - streets flooding as the sand filled gutters overflow with needed water. Today is winter - 4 degrees Celcius. And all are wearing coats.

This past week, the crowds have been bustling as the residents rush to buy gifts for each other, find that special ram that they will kill on Monday in Celebration. But today is quiet - A Friday - the first day of the weekend - and a time for prayer, and solitude.

This is my last trip to Libya for the year. My next visit and I will become a resident. I bid you all a happy Eid. May you be at peace.
